Montreal -- February 2 & 3, 2008

Margaret-Ann and I caught the train out of Union Station in Toronto around noon on Saturday, February 2nd, and headed to Montreal to see the Canadiens play the New York Rangers on Sunday afternoon at the Bell Centre. We checked into the Chateau Champlain, about a five minute walk from the train station and a three minute walk from the Bell Centre, around 6:00 pm. Saturday was the day after a major storm had blanketed the area with 15-20 cm of snow. By Saturday night, all the main roads had been ploughed, but Montreal does not seem to remove snow from downtown sidewalks. So instead of walking to Old Montreal (usually about a 20 minute walk from the hotel), we grabbed a cab to Gibby's and had a fabulous dinner. The next day we went to the Bell Centre to cheer on the Canadiens, but saw them squander an early three-goal lead and end up falling to the Rangers 5 to 3. Oh well, our favourite Canadiens remain one of the hottest teams in the NHL since Christmas. After the game we picked up our bags at the hotel and walked to the train station. We got back to Toronto around 11:30 pm and Meredith, our daughter, picked us up (we had left our car in the underground parking lot of her condo for the weekend). We were back in Brampton shortly after midnight to end another excellent trip.

Below are pictures taken from our hotel room. The first two, on the Saturday evening upon our arrival; the next three, the following morning.

And to all, a good night!
