August 21st was Margaret-Ann and John’s 41st wedding anniversary and, as well, John’s 63rd birthday. To celebrate, they left Brampton early that day and headed to Port Stanley – a picturesque little fishing village of about 2,500 people, 30 kilometres south of London on the north shore of Lake Erie. A thriving commercial fishing fleet operates out of the Port Stanley Harbour, catching mostly perch and pickerel (also known as walleye), but it’s the long sandy beaches and quaint boutique stores that attract most of the tourists.
After a quick lunch in St. Thomas, Margaret-Ann and John arrived in Port Stanley and spent the rest of the afternoon checking out all of the stores and walking through the sand at the Little and Main Beaches. They saw many historic buildings, including Telegraph House, and cooled off with drinks on the patio of Mickey’s Boathouse Restaurant and Bar, before checking into their second-floor room at the Inn On The Harbour.
After a delicious dinner of Cajun-spiced pickerel at the Kettle Creek Inn, and before turning in for the evening, Margaret-Ann and John caught Norm Foster’s wonderful play, Storm Warning, at the Port Stanley Festival Theatre.
The following day, John awoke early and walked through the Village taking pictures. An hour later he met Margaret-Ann for breakfast back at the Inn On The Harbour, after which they checked out and headed back to Brampton.
