August 22nd, 23rd – Toronto to Amsterdam
Weather – Sunny and mild in Amsterdam.
Margaret-Ann and John boarded a British Airways flight out of Toronto’s Pearson Airport at 7:30 p.m. (Aug. 22nd) and after a 7 hour flight, a 5 HOUR LAYOVER in London's Heathrow Airport and a final 1 hour flight to Schipol Airport touched down in Amsterdam around 3:00 p.m. (Aug. 23rd).
They caught the train from Schipol to Amsterdam Central and a cab from there to their hotel (another Mercure Hotel but not nearly as nice as the one they stayed at in Vienna a couple of years ago).
Since they arrived a bit later than expected, they didn't do the canal cruise as originally planned for that day. Instead, they walked up past the Rijks Museum (it's huge) and ate dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe, then spent almost three hours going through the Vincent Van Gogh Museum -- excellent, with state-of-the-art audio guide technology.
Margaret-Ann and John returned to the hotel around 10:30 p.m. and since having had only about 2 or 3 hours of sleep on planes since 7:00 a.m. Thursday, decided to call it a night. They both agreed that so far it looked like the beginning of another excellent adventure.
