August 31st – Breisach, Colmar
Weather – sunny and warm.
The S.S. Antoinette docked at Breisach, Germany at 3:00 a.m. (Margaret-Ann and John were fast asleep).
Right after breakfast they boarded a bus, crossed the Rhine and drove about thirty minutes through the rich farmland of the Alsace region of France to reach Colmar at the foot of the Vosges Mountains, which parallel Germany’s Black Forest.
Margaret-Ann and John had yet another wonderful walking tour through the very picturesque old area of the city (birthplace of the sculptor Bartholdi - creator of The Statue of Liberty and almost every statue and fountain in Colmar). They didn’t see any storks today… the tour guide said that most of the storks had already left to spend the winter in north Africa.
After the return trip by bus, Margaret-Ann and John re-boarded the ship for lunch and did a little packing in preparation for their disembarkation the following morning; leaving just enough time to get ready for the Captain's farewell reception and dinner -- good thing all the drinks and food were all low cal!!!!
