August 30th – Kehl, Strasbourg
Weather – sunny and warm.
The S.S. Antoinette sailed overnight and docked in Kehl, Germany at 8:00 a.m. Margaret-Ann and John boarded a bus at 8:30 and crossed the Rhine to Strasbourg, France -- the capital of the Alsace region in eastern France and official seat of the European Parliament. Everyone except them opted for the canal cruise tour, so Margaret-Ann and John ended up with a 3 hour private walking tour of Strasbourg -- a very pretty city and, of course, the Kathedrale Notre Dame is spectacular; including the astronomical clock. During the tour they saw several storks on the top of buildings. The guide said that many of the storks stay in Strasbourg year-round, while the others fly to north Africa for the winter.
Margaret-Ann and John returned to the ship for lunch and had a relatively quiet afternoon on board, finally finding some time to do laundry.
The S.S. Antoinette pulled away from Kehl during dinner and headed further up the Rhine to Breisach.
