20 Celsius and Mostly Cloudy & Showers
This is the eighth of twenty posts documenting Margaret-Ann and John’s 2011 trip to Europe.
The first full day in Idar-Oberstein saw Margaret-Ann, John and Rudi (Barbara stayed home to prepare dinner) drove 10 km to Herrstein, a village dating back to the middle ages. Here they hiked the 8.6 km Middle Ages Trail through the beautiful woods and meadows of the Hunsrück Mountains, getting only slightly wet with the odd shower or two.
Back at Idar-Oberstein, Rudi’s son Martin, his wife, Astrid, and son Julius (a Justin Bieber look-a-like), and Astrid’s mother, Irmgard joined the group for afternoon tea and cheesecake, and stayed for dinner. And what a dinner Barbara served up: barbequed pork and sausages, German potato salad, radish (white) salad, roast vegetables from Provence and leaf lettuce salad; followed with a mixed berries in vanilla cream desert (Rote Grütze) and champagne. Wow!
And so ended day eight of Margaret-Ann and John’s 2011 European trip. Keep checking the blog for more postings of this trip.
